Welcome to April’s news letter.
As you will read you will see how busy we have been during March and early April organising the Easter Fair and Dog Show. At the same time dogs and cats continue to be rescued, fostered and re-homed by us. The commitment of all our volunteers is evident to all.
Axarquia Animal Rescue (AAR) is a small registered charity (10567 Spain). We are a group of volunteers, based in the Axarquia area who is dedicated to rescuing and re-homing abused and abandoned animals in the area. We do not have a shelter or premises.
Our Animal Army is a central forum for our wonderful helpers and supporters. Our incredible foster families are the corner stone of what we do. There are too many to name individually, but without them we could not function. A massive THANK YOU to all our 'New Parents' across Europe who have adopted from us.
AAR depends on donations and fundraising to enable them to continue their work. With a current case load of 80+ animals on their books, monthly vet bills are usually in the region of 4000 Euros.
We have been supported by fantastic local vets throughout the Axarquia region, without which we could not have achieved what we have. We are also grateful to some local kennels that help us in times of need. This coming year, we hope to continue to increase the numbers of animals adopted abroad and are so grateful to the transport companies we use.
Can you foster, adopt, donate or support? There are many ways to AAR - their charity shop, or their weekly stalls on a Friday at Chiringuito Antonio, Puente don Manuel or Tuesday’s market at Trapiche.
The shop in Torre del Mar goes from strength to strength. The shop is open Monday – Saturday from 10am – 2pm. There are great bargains to be had such as clothes, bric-a-brac, household items and much, much more. Donated items are always welcomed.
We are looking for volunteers to join our "gang" one day per week 10-2pm, could this be you if so please call Liz on 657293663.
Foster carers meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month at 11.00 at the Trapiche restaurant. We always need fosterers, so if you are interested in fostering either short or long term, then come alone and find out more.
We all joined this group with the intention of giving these dogs a better life. Every day there are new and tragic cases appearing of beautiful dogs unloved and abandoned for all sorts of reasons. We all help in our different ways but at the moment we are desperately short of fosterers. I am one myself and no it isn't easy, and you do get attached, but ultimately you are the stepping stone that gets these waifs out of the killing stations and allows them to be a dog again, and there is nothing like seeing a dog evolve into a loving pet ready for their forever home. If you have the room in your home, and your heart, to foster then please give it a go. You have no idea how rewarding it is. Please contact us here.
Rehomings for March
The figure for March is 22. Down a bit on last couple of months but we do have 19 reserved and ready to travel in April.
29 March - Liz and Sam would like to thank everyone that came on our last AAR/RBL Benajarafe Fundraiser 'Sunday with a Difference'. We raised an amazing 203.00 Euros. That's 101.50 for each charity. We will be buying a pair of Biteman Gloves for AAR for their rescue/response team and the balance to their neutering campaign, and 101.50 to the RBL Benajarafe Poppy Appeal. The Carvery was amazing.... Thank you all very much
Axarquia Animal Rescue would like to thank very much the members of Vinuela Social Club for their generous donation of 363,03€ this will go a long way in paying the vets bills for the 30 puppies we took on. Thank you so much again.
